Snapper Rocks Surfriders Club Brief History: From humble beginnings in 1964 Snapper Surfriders Club soon gained a reputation as the premier club. We have more World Champions than any other club in Australia by far. A recent media article entitled ‘The Magnificent Seven’ referred to the seven world champions to come from this area since the 1960’s. Six of them are Snapper Rocks Surfriders Club members:

– Phyllis O’Donell 1964

– Peter Townend 1976

– Wayne Bartholomew 1978

– Mark Occhilupo 1999

– Stephanie Gilmore 8 x World Champion

– Joel Parkinson 2012

– Snapper Rocks Surfriders Club was the first to be inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame, and we were inducted for the second time in 2012

– In interclub teams events Snapper Rocks Surfriders Club holds the record amount of wins in most major teams events. In the Straddie Aussalt held on Stradbroke Island the club set an amazing record of thirteen consecutive wins. Of the twenty nine events that have been run we have won twenty times. No other sporting club in Australia has a record like that!
